Did you know that according to the Environmental Protection Agency, indoor air is 2-5 times more polluted than the outdoor air? I didn’t. Did you also know that most of the dirt and dust indoors comes from dead skin cells? I didn’t. Lastly, did you know studies have shown that men and women spend 90% of their time indoors? I didn’t know this one either. It has never been more apparent to me that filtration and indoor air quality products are essential in today’s heating and air conditioning systems. If you are not familiar with the components of IAQ (indoor air quality), don’t worry. Over the next couple of blogs we are going to take a glance at IAQ and learn a thing or two.
Filtration is the most important component of Indoor Air Quality. Filtration has two major benefits. First, proper filtration will protect your heating and air conditioning equipment from harmful pollutants like dirt. The number one cause of HVAC equipment breakdowns is dirt. Dirt is the enemy. Less dirt good, more dirt bad. Second, proper filtration will protect you. You and your family are breathing every second of every day. Is the air in your home clean healthy air or polluted?
I believe that we can apply the same logic of filtering water before drinking and relate it to filtering air before breathing. No one wants to drink dirty water. Thus, people buy filters and bottled water (my wife and I have a Brita water filter). I believe, this same logic applies to the air in your home. No one wants dirty air and especially no one with allergies. So what is the solution then? A filter. Consult your local HVAC company on their recommended filter for your system.
